The event is a summer school on rule-based machine translation hosted at the Universitat d'Alacant. The school will involve introducing students to four free/open-source rule-based machine translation platforms from different paradigms. There will be an equal proportion of lectures from core developers of major free/open-source rule-based MT platforms and project and practical work.
The school will take place over a period of two weeks in the summer of 2016 and will cover introductions to four actively-developed rule-based machine translation systems, namely, Apertium, Grammatical Framework, Matxin and TectoMT along with joint work on group projects.
We hope that the Summer School will encourage collaboration and interoperability of translation data between these systems. All of the abovementioned systems are free/open-source software, so the only obstacles to sharing data are formats and culture.

The Summer School will take place in room L22 of the Escola Politècnica Superior at the campus of the Universitat d'Alacant. The campus itself is located between Alacant and the town of Sant Vicent del Raspeig.
One option is the Villa Universitaria which is situated within walking distance of the venue and has competitive prices. Another option within walking distance is the Residència Universitaria Diego de León.
There are a great many hotels in Alacant, but summer is an especially busy time, so it is worth booking in advance.
For those wanting an alternative, the town is also well represented on AirBnB. You can search for places in Alacant and also in Sant Vicent del Raspeig.
Participation in the Summer School is free of charge, but applications are subject to approval. The deadline for registration is the 15th June 2016.
To the registration form
There are ten student bursaries available for Summer School participants. These grants will cover part of your travel and accommodation expenses. To be eligible for a grant, you must submit a project proposal before the Summer School. Submissions should be made through the EasyChair management system here. The project will be something that you will work on during the practical sessions, it should be large enough that it will span over a week, but small enough that reasonable progress can be made within two weeks.
The deadline for bursary applications is the 2nd April, 2016.
